Ben Lucero was a natural born leader, powered by unshakeable self confidence, taking charge and inspiring others to achieve greatness in live.
As a problem solver he could be very creative, seeing the world in new ways, and generating solutions, from looking at all possible angles of the issue and give the solution based on rational thinking and creativity.
He was an enormously big hearted person, he would guide anyone in the necessity of expanding his or her Intellectual well being, as well as the valuable life lessons Lucero would give to all in need.
His wisdom gave others the chance to grow as a person in many fields of life.
Ben was a generous man, honest and brave. His optimistic views on life was maybe the most compelling part of his character, it showed the heart of someone who would never give up for what is good.
There are many facets in life, that are for most people uncomprehendable to understand, or let alone to being able to define them.
Lucero, could most of the time see the whole picture, and by doing so, he would unfold a form of perception, and see beautiful and optimistic things, wich is a rare and uncommon gift.
From the moment on Lucero started realizing what the political differences where in the United States of America and what they represent, Jesus immediately had a strong belief system in the National Republican Party and would firmly dedicate himself in supporting the party. He was a proud member of The National Republican Party for decades and continued his allegiance all throughout his life. For a brief time he was the director of the Republican Party in Douglas, Arizona.
For his contribution to The National Republican party at the time of the election of former President George W. Bush Jr., Ben was presented a grateful acknowledgement for his Personal and Financial commitment. Lucero was also invited to the inauguration of George walker Bush Jr. as the President of The United States of America in January 20th 2001, held at Washington D.C..
Ben was a conservatist, he strongly believed in the Core Principles of Conservatism: Individual Freedom, Limited Government, The Rule of Law, Peace through Strength, Fiscal Responsibility and Free Markets. In his last years ben strongly supported former President Donald Trump. Ben and also his wife Edith supported trump because he was not a politician from the swamp but a honest businessman that loves his country. Edith hopes together with Ben's soul that Trump gets re-elected in 2024 and makes America great again!!
Jesus his character was defined by his assertiveness and reinforced with a diplomatic and effective communication style, wich was based on mutual respect. He would stand up for his interests and beliefs, and would openly defend them without a subjective tone. He demanded the respect he himself deserved and would treat everybody in that same equality, which for some people was hard to accept.
If a person is able to show you a mirror and portray what you're negative reflections are.. only a person with self knowledge will be able to get out of that conversation in a positive matter, others will outline the negativity and thereby acknowledge what Lucero's point was in the first place.
Lucero's character made him become an amazingly grateful person, for the life he had been through, the opportunities he was given, the challenges he made, his achievements, his Art legacy, his travelling, but most of all grateful for having his soulmate Edith with him by his side.
Ben would wake up every morning and
give thanks for all the blessings he enjoyed. Living everyday joyful and happy.
In the '80s, Jesus Benjamin lucero was extensively travelling through Europe and lecturing on Native Indian American Art. At one particular day Ben was going with an old acquintance and Mrs. Annick Mathijs to her parental home in Keerbergen,Belgium. At the house Ben met Annick's sister Mrs. Edith Mathijs. It must have been love on first sight by what we know today. They were both intriged by one another's character and interests. Edith decided to invite Ben over again for a spaghetti. At that delicious meal they talked for hours about many things, and immediately felt a connection towards each other.
They also had long talks about The United States of America, Edith was already as a child fascinated with everything about the United States, the history, the lifestyle, the people, the nature, etc..
Ben was deeply impressed by Edith's personality and appearance. He would make a suggestion that would change their lives. He invited Edith to come with him to America so he could show her the beauty of his home country, Edith gladly accepted to this adventure.
Their journey started at the airport of Brussels flying to Amsterdam, there they took a flight to Los Angeles and San Diego. They rested for a day and the first thing they did was going to a powwow gathering. Lucero was in the week still working at Palomar College so in the weekends Ben and Edith would go to Disney World, Magic Mountain, Big Bear, go for beach walks, meet Ben's family and friends.. they had the time of their life and fell in love. Edith decided she would stay with Ben, as their hearts collided like two magnets forging together, becoming soulmates.
They proudly got married July 10th 1990, in Bisbee Arizona, living many years as a happy couple.
Mrs. Edith lucero Mathijs was born January 28th 1963 in Luik Wallonië, the Wallonian (French) speaking part of Belgium. Her father Mr. Joseph Mathijs was a Bank employee of the General Bank of Belgium, and her mother Mrs. Laurette Prijot was a opera singer at the Grand Opera of Luik. Edith also had a little sister Annick, who was born 2 years later March 22th 1965. In the mid '60s the family moved to the Residential area of Keerbergen in Flanders, the Flemish (Dutch) speaking side of belgium, where her parents build a charming villa. Edith and Annick were raised bilingual and went to school to the Royal Atheneum of Keerbergen. Edtih graduated from college in 1981, achieving her College Degree Diploma of Modern Language ASO. in Belgium, High Schools are divided in 3 categories, ASO wich is the most difficult categorie, is considered to be a stepping stone for further University Students.
When Edith left with Ben on her American adventure, they first lived in California for 2 years. Edith did an amount of courses at Palomar College through Ben who was still an Associate Professor. She slowly also got acquainted with lucero's Artwork. When Ben decided he wanted to travel through Mexico, make art and work on his Academic studies, it was at this point that it became clear to Ben that Edith was also an amazing asset to his artworks. Edith had refined Photographic talents, so for the years to come she was the head of photography for his new developing artworks. After intense travelling, they lived a couple of years in the Sovereign State of Chihuahua, Mexico. A remarkable part of this story is that in the beginning of their travelling through Mexico, Lucero had to leave a couple of days for a hunting party, he would come back and was surprised to find out that Edith had fully mastered the Mexican language, showing her skills for adaptation and learning new languages.
By the year 1990, Edith and Ben went back to the United States of America and started to live in Ben's childhood home in Douglas, Arizona. In 1994, Edith started to work for J.C. penneys as a Merchandise Manager. She worked for J.C. penneys with all her heart for 26 years, until her early retirement in 2020, when she decided to commit herself to spend more time with Ben, providing and taking care of his happiness and comfort. She had an amazing Career and looks back very proud on that era. In 2003 edtih lucero became an American Citizen after passing the U.S. Citizenship test, and is still to this day living the American dream.
After a long and successful career, Lucero retired from his professional responsibilities in 2006, at the age of 69 years old. As we mentioned already on a previous page, right before his retirement he started to study at Yavapai College, achieving his Diploma of Digital Media Arts and Digital Storytelling, when he already surpassed the age of 70 years old. He proved that being old is just a state of mind, not a destination.
When Ben was retired and finished graduating from Yavapai College, he dedicated himself to make more Art, and became a voracious reader of his huge collection of books he collected throughout the years. Even when his health started to decline Lucero stayed determined to keep making more Art, finishing works he started decades before. He also painted beautiful cards, wich he kept sending to family and friends who were very delighted by the immense poetry that was hidden behind the artwork. Those who could see beyond the aesthetics and the elegance of his Artworks, are able to conceive a form of written text made by a poet, a visionary and imaginary point of view, portrayed through his magnificent paintings.
Ben Lucero in his personal time with Edith, loved to watch '1950s Hollywood Historical drama and Western Movies, and listen to Gospel and Bluegrass music. Every morning he would drink his coffee and read the Bible, when he would not feel well, he liked to watch the Catholic services on television. At the age of 82 years old, Jesus Benjamin Lucero gently passed away at his home in Douglas Arizona, under the loving care of his wife Edith. Chiri Sopori or Ben Lucero's physical form has left us to a spirit behind the clouds, but his Art, wich has become a legacy, will live forever.
